If you’re a developer you’re probably not using satellite star internet at home but what to do if you don’t have the funds for the latest and greatest tools at your disposal? We’ve got a few suggestions for you to keep in mind while you’re pining away for the next big thing
Talk to your employer – Oftentimes, employers will spring for the software you need to work from home if they think you’ll be working more hours on their behalf. Petition your boss for the software you need but tell him specifically what you plan to do with it and how it’s going to make the company money.
Petition your library – It may seem antiquated, but local libraries often keep the software in stock that they’ve got repeated requests for. If you’ve got a specific program in mind contact your library and see what has to be done to order a copy.
Share a copy – There are dozens of sites and some bigger ones (think Craigslist) that allow developers to come together and talk shop. Communicate your need with others on the site and see if they’ll go in on a 3-burn copy with yousplitting saves money.
